Adressing the Reproducibility Crisis in Science

The ability to reproduce results is one of the cornerstones of research. However, most journals are not interested in publishing reproduced results, as they are deemed to lack novelty and impact.

Scientists often find themselves in a situation where they are unable to reproduce other researchers’ work. Following one false lead after another can be very costly for graduate students or postdoctoral researchers looking to complete their research projects and advance their careers.

The consequences of the current reproducibility crisis:

• 70% of scientists cannot reproduce published research.
• Money, resources and time are wasted trying to perform analyses and gather data that have been done before, but simply never published.
• Due to publication bias, researchers are unwittingly applying for grants for research which has already been disproved by other researchers but never published.

ScienceMatters aims to address the reproducibility crisis by launching a new journal, Reproducibility Matters and the blockchain based project EUREKA. Join us for an evening to find out more and discuss how you and your peers can benefit as well as contribute to an improvement of research quality.

Taking place at ETH, Hönggerberg Campus, HIL C10.2 , on September 12 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

The event will begin with ca 1 hour presentation about ScienceMatters' solutions to the reproducibility crisis, followed by an apero in the Foyer from ca 18.
