Life Science Zurich was initiated in 2001 by ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich in order to create a stronger network for researchers in life sciences and make life science research more accessible to the public. Early 2002, the official kick-off took place. Since then, we have been fostering a dialogue between science and society and promoting Zurich as a national and international center for cutting-edge research, first-class education, and economic innovation in the life sciences.

We are happy to invite you to our anniversary event on 19 May 2022, 5 pm (HG E3, Main Building ETH Zurich). We will take a look at the beginnings of Life Science Zurich, discuss current challenges in science communication and also venture a look into the future. We will close the event with an aperitif in the ETH Dozentenfoyer.

We will take a look back at the beginnings of LSZ, discuss current challenges in science communication and also venture a look into the future. Which topics will be of particular concern in life science research and science communication in the future? How can the voice of science be strengthened in society and politics? When LSZ was founded 20 years ago, there was a lack of information about important, politically relevant life science issues in society. The covid pandemic showed that disinformation and scientific scepticism are still widespread. How can we as scientists, as universities and as institutes like Life Science Zurich meet these challenges? We would like to discuss these and other questions with our speakers and with you.
